Our vision is of a more generous society, where everyone is willing and able to give their time, money and skills to support causes they care about. Research shows that when young people are given the authority to make decisions, they demonstrate increased social responsibility (Body, 2024). In addition civic participation in community engagement during childhood predicts later civic engagement in adulthood (McRee, 2025; Lundbery and Abdelzadeh, 2025).
How do we measure our outcomes and impact?
We have developed an organisational Theory of Change and programme-level Theories of Change which have been designed to support evaluation of our work. Our commitment is to learning, developing and improving the efficacy and efficiency of our programmes. Every year, we collect responses from students, teachers and charities to help verify elements of our Theory of Change and articulate our impact.

The [First Give] programme helps our students to develop their independence and confidence and enables them to learn more about themselves while developing their sense of empathy and responsibility within the community.
Seeing students take responsibility for their own learning, and growing in confidence as they realise the impact they can have has been really exciting! I would definitely recommend the programme to other schools and teachers.
Because of First Give, we will speak louder, care more and act with purpose
This experience has made me more open to understanding and addressing broader societal issues. For me, it has ignited a desire to contribute to larger changes, and I’m eager to continue seeking ways to make a positive impact beyond this challenge.
The social action campaign with in schools is a fantastic way to engage young people and empower them to raise awareness of social issues and the support available.
It's got a dual benefit of raising awareness for local causes creating connections in the community and a clear benefit for children building their leadership and communication skills as well as their resilience.
